We are all very much familiar with this line. Bengal had 1st experienced social, educational, and economic transformation.The state had given India its 1st Indian Civil servant under company rule in Satyendranath Tagore, who was the elder brother of Nobel-winning writer Kavi Guru Rabindranath Tagore.
Bengal has also given us Subhas Chandra Bose, who stood 4th in the Indian Civil Services Exam.
However, glory of this region in this exam has faded in recent years.
Although 5-10 aspirants get into the service every year, the majority of the youth is not well aware of that and are moving towards other government exams. The youth in Bengal is chasing other jobs due to the perceived notion of Civil Service being the hardest one to crack, with only about 0.01% candidates getting recommended on the final list.
However, in reality, among the average 10 Lakh aspirants that fill up the application form, only about 50,000 are actually serious aspirants.
