Designation of DANIPS officers

The career of a DANIPS officer starts with the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Delhi or DSP of any UT. After that, they get their promotions and after completing a certain year in the service they get promoted to IPS. DANIPS officers are a crucial part of Delhi as they form the backbone of the Delhi Police.

Both a DANIPS and an IPS officer start their journey from the same level. However, an IPS gets faster promotions as compared to a DANIPS officer. The general career progression of a DANIPS officer is given below

    • ACP: Just after completion of Training).
    • ACP: After 4 years of service (At this time, the Grade Pay increases to 5400 as compared to the 4800 in which they join. Else the rank remains the same.)
    • Additional DCP: After 10–12 years of Service
    • DCP: After 16–17 years of Service
    • Senior DCP (2-star DCP/equivalent to SSP). The DANIPS officers are inducted into the IPS at this rank. Although only the UPSC selects candidates for IPS, the number of years after which you get promoted to this is dependent on your ACR reports and competency.
